Role Description

TaxSlayer is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to assist in the maintenance and monitoring of our critical IT infrastructure. To be successful in this role, you should have 3-4 years of successful experience working on various hardware and software technologies in the IT field, the ability to work an on-call rotation, be capable of delivering on-time and well-executed projects, and most importantly, work well with a team of fellow engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain various hardware items such as servers, firewalls, switches, etc.
  • Work closely with other infrastructure, DevOps, and network engineers, developers, and departmental leadership
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand needs and translate into technical requirements
  • Work in an environment which utilizes a Kanban approach to project management
  • Implement security and data protection and monitor and reduce cyber security risk

Skills and Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Windows Server Administration Experience
  • Active Directory Administration Experience
  • Linux experience
  • Azure Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role

Nice to Have:

  • Data Center operations experience
  • Scripting and Automation: Strong skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automating tasks and processes.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Experience with tools like Prometheus and Grafana for observability and incident response.
  • Containerization: Deep knowledge of Docker and best practices around container lifecycle management.
  • Service Mesh: Familiarity with service mesh technology like Linkerd for microservice management.
  • Security Best Practices: Experience with Kubernetes security (RBAC, Network Policies, Pod Security, etc.).
  • Configuration Management: Familiarity with Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for managing system configurations.
  • GitOps: Knowledge of GitOps workflows, especially using ArgoCD, for Kubernetes continuous delivery.
  • Networking: Understanding of network protocols, routing, load balancing, and DNS, especially in cloud and Kubernetes environments.
  • High Availability and Scaling: Experience with auto-scaling (in Kubernetes and Azure) and setting up highly available clusters.
  • Cloud-native Architecture: Knowledge of cloud-native tools and practices.
  • Advanced Helm Skills: Developing custom Helm charts, managing releases, and templating.
  • CI/CD Best Practices: Experience in automating end-to-end pipelines with strong skills in Azure Pipelines, including infrastructure deployments with Terraform.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Knowledge of compliance standards like CIS and DOD STIGs.
